Coach Doc Clarke is proud of the Bays senior side committing to a dominant four-quarter effort at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday.
Amidst a busy Back to the Bay Day on Saturday afternoon, where the celebrations of the 1985/86 Premiership Reunion were paired with the five-year reunion of our inaugural SANFLW premiership, the Bays were buoyed to produce a strong triumph over Port Adelaide.
“This week, across each of the four quarters, the defensive pressure was at a really high level and we were also able to score, kicking over 100-points which was great,” Doc said.
“We were also able to restrict Port Adelaide, who are a strong offensive side.”
The Bays controlled the majority of the action at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a 49-point win against their club rivals. A relentless defensive effort and efficient ball movement allowed the Bays to build scoreboard pressure, preventing the Magpies from gaining needed momentum.
Lachie Hosie cemented his position at the top of the SANFL goal-kicking leaderboard, with Round 9 marking his second six-goal game of the season.
Impressive 19-year-old South East alumni Remi Brown took home the Powerade Breakthrough Player of the Round recognition following an outstanding performance of 24 disposals, six marks and three goals. Brown continued his impressive development at league level, providing a strong presence around the contest while also having an impact forward of centre.
“Remi’s had a great season. We’re really pleased for him, and to be acknowledged by the league is great,” said Doc.
In his 50th SANFL match, Patrick Parnell impressed with 33 disposals and his first goal in the black and gold.
“Patty played predominantly off half-back, in the last quarter he went and spent a bit of time further up the ground and was able to kick a goal in his 50th game.”
The Bays now take the first bye of the split round, providing an opportunity for players to freshen up and recover before a challenging stretch of fixtures in the coming weeks.
The Tigers will head to the Ponderosa next Saturday for a clash against Central Districts before facing Sturt at home in round 12, and Norwood at the Parade in round 13.
