The Glenelg Football Club proudly hosted the annual JH Ellers Best and Fairest Awards Night as part of our Evening of Excellence at the SAJC last Friday. The night, filled with individual and team accolades, celebrated the standout performers of the 2025 season and immortalised two of Glenelg’s most talented players with Hall of Fame inductions.
The Past Players and Officials Committee once again went above and beyond, contributing another invaluable year to the Bays’ off-field success. This year, they raised over $80,000 for the Club. Their tireless efforts, particularly through the continued success of the annual Cash Lottery Day, were recognised on the night, with PPO Chairman Keith Kuhlmann presenting a cheque to CEO Justin Scripps.
A full list of award winners from the evening is provided below. Most notably, premiership legend Jonty Scharenberg was named JH Ellers Best and Fairest for the 2025 season. Leading from the front all year, Scharenberg’s unwavering commitment to the black and gold was further recognised as he also received the prestigious 2025 Stripes Award.
Our Reserves Premiership side was congratulated by over 300 attendees on the night, with Cooper Horsnell awarded 2025 Reserves Best and Fairest, and Jack McAuley taking home the Reserves Stripes Award for his outstanding season.
The Club also formally farewelled three Glenelg stars, as Luke Reynolds, Jarryd Lyons, and Max Proud announced their retirements. Each of these players has made significant contributions to the Bays throughout their remarkable SANFL careers, and we congratulate them on their incredible service and dedication to the Tigers.
A highlight of the evening was the Hall of Fame induction of Andrew Bradley and Peter McInerney, who were officially etched into Glenelg history alongside 54 Club legends. Both men epitomise the Glenelg spirit defined by resilience, loyalty, and selflessness on and off the field.
The below excerpt is from Club Historian Peter Cornwall’s 2025 Hall of Fame booklet:
Peter McInerney was a livewire rover, whose pace, courage and skills are remembered from a sparkling career of 153 games – and 182 goals – from 1975-83. He was part of a Dynamic Duo in his roving partnership with 1978 Magarey Medallist Kym Hodgman.
While we’re on the subject of Glenelg superheroes, Andrew Bradley was a Captain Courageous, maybe even a Captain Marvel. Braddles was a 200-gamer, dual best and fairest and, his greatest highlight and memory, premiership player, And, to add to the history and nostalgia of it all, his family is pretty much Glenelg royalty.
Both players will live in Glenelg history books, with their legacy fostering the Club’s ongoing all-in philosophy.
