Doc’s Debrief | Round 2

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA

It was great to be back at Stratarama Stadium for our first home match with a huge crowd showing up to support our team. Although we started the game slowly, and in truth, didn’t really play particularly well until the fourth quarter, the energy of the crowd was significant in keeping us in the game.

Our fifth league debutant for the season in Isaac Hyatt demonstrated that he is ready for league footy, impacting immediately upon entering the game early in the first quarter. His ability to crumb packs and be clean at ground level were features of his performance. While we were competing strongly, our inability to connect to our forward targets was frustrating for players, coaches and supporters alike.

Fortunately, our defensive intensity remained high and we were able to minimise the damage on the scoreboard while Norwood had the better of the match in general play. At three quarter time, facing a four goal deficit, the players remained composed and their belief in their ability to run out the game was strong. What followed was a remarkable turn around as we gained control of the match, winning contests and locking the ball in our front half. To their credit, our forward group maintained a great mindset throughout and were rewarded in the fourth quarter as we put on five goals.

While the crowd had been vocal throughout the first three quarters the roar as we drew closer on the scoreboard and eventually hit the front was something to behold. It was certainly a memorable first home game for myself and I look forward to experiencing the passion of the Glenelg faithful as the season progresses.

After the match Cam McGree was recognised by the players with the Stripes Award for his performance against quality opponent Harry Boyd, while the Past Players and Officials recognised Jonty Scharenberg and Corey Lyons for strong performances across the match.

Thanks to everyone for showing up in great number. We now enter the Gather Round bye week, but we can’t wait to see everyone back at Stratarama Stadium for Round 3 versus a resurgent West Adelaide.

Go Tiges!
