Talia’s Talking Points | Round 6

PROUDLY BROUGHT TO YOU BY CONCEPT DATA

We have really enjoyed playing back at home at Stratarama Stadium in the past fortnight. Despite losing co-Captain Asha Dufour during the week to injury, it allowed us to debut two players. Congratulations to Rhiley Huppatz, who has plied her trade playing football in the NT, making her SANFL league debut at age 30. We also had the opportunity to debut Ada-Mae Koch, a 16-year-old talented Glenelg junior from Plympton FC.
Our first quarter was pleasing start to the game with Deni Varnhagen slotting home a goal on the run from 40m after continued pressure up the ground from our midfield and wings. Shortly after, Kiara Henry kicked to advantage to Kiana Lee who took a great contested mark inside 50 and converted.
The rain bucketed down at quarter time and this only increased our intent to dominate at the contest. We took control all over the ground with contested possession, ground ball gets and intercept possessions. This was led by an outstanding performance by Cassie McWilliam, leading our Ruck, who finished with 36 hit-outs, 16 disposals and 5 clearances, giving clean first use to our midfield led by Isla Wiencke (23 disposals), Ellie Kellock, and 16-year-old Tori Evans whom had the opportunity with our injuries to be exposed to midfield minutes.
Our backline held up strongly with great discipline and structure, with a superb performance from key back Shaylee Dayman, as she completely shut out the opposition’s dangerous key forward.
We took control of the territory game with the inside 50 count finishing at 40 – 19. Unfortunately, we were not able to punish the opposition with scoreboard pressure as we would have liked to, with many gettable shots on goal being off-line or inside 50s going to less-favourable spots in the pocket.
We enjoyed the win as great reward for our hard work, but we are determined to spur this into consistency going forward.
